Getting to Greece

During Summer (May to October) there are countless daily direct charter flights to the holiday destinations, such as Crete, Corfu and Kalamata - from all UK regional airports.

Most visitors book a package via the internat based or high street agent, but it's just as easy to find a flight with an operator like Excel or Thomas Cook.

For year round access, fly from London to Athens with British Airways - and if you like surly service, Olympic Airways. Domestic flights to all islands can be booked via the wen with excellent Agean Airlines (failing that, Olympic Aviation) plus some inter island flights with smaller Sky Express.

Sea travel from the main port of Pireaus has limitless possibilities, more so in summer months. It's not easy to book in advance. Ferries, hydrofoils and seacats change their schedules like the proverbial wind, so check with reliable www.gtp.gr for port information and more.

Where to Stay

Rodialos Villa - Panormon, Crete

Rodialos VillaOne of our favourite places. The shorefront villa outside Panormon village, near Rethymnon stands out from the crowd. Designed like a Minoan palace in, its shady courtyard surrounds a pomegranate tree, while large terraces host lazy lunches, and sunset gazing.

Rodialos' garden turns into a private Rocky shore. This is where you clamber on hot days to plunge into the Cretan Sea.

Inside, is the height of island chic. Spacious living and dining areas offer 180 degree views, a professional kitchen, and 4 bedrooms (one master with bedroom suite), 2 bathrooms (sleeps up to 12 total).

Rent entire or as an apartmant. Charismatic hostess Mary Damvoglu Fragaki also runs special Cretan cuisine cookery seminars. Her skills are endless.
